The Ontario Brain Institute (OBI) was funded in 2010 by the Province of Ontario with a mandate of making Ontario a world leader in brain research by galvanizing pan-Ontario partnerships and subsequently engaging these partnerships with the world. OBI’s mission is to build awareness on the importance of brain disorders, translating research into improved care and accelerating product development for improved health.

In April 2013, OBI’s Integrated Discovery Program (IDP) the Ontario Neurodegenerative Disease Research Initiative (ONDRI) was approved $28.5 million over five years and was awarded to a consortium of hospitals, academic institutions and research institutes.

“Integrated discovery” is a unique template developed by the OBI, which brings together researchers, clinicians, industry, and patient advocates to maximize fresh insights and speed translation of those insights into better care.
