Meet: Senny Chan, Research Coordinator

Senny Chan.jpgWhat’s your role with ONDRI?

I’m a research coordinator at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. I mainly work on the front lines – screening, recruiting, scheduling, and testing participants. I also process, manage and upload data to electronic databases, including Brain-CODE.

What do you hope ONDRI achieves?

I hope that ONDRI can utilize its incredibly rich dataset to transform diagnostic methods to help detect disease earlier, improve clinical practice and eventually find innovative effective treatments. I hope these data collected will help improve the quality of life for patients.

Why did you choose your profession?

I started working in health care as a clinical psychometrist before moving on to a qualitative research setting. After graduating, it felt like clinical research combined the best of both worlds.

What makes for a great workday?

Getting what needs to be done, done. Yet having something unexpected and challenging thrown at me and having the opportunity and freedom to creatively problem solve.

What do you enjoying doing when you’re not at work?

I love training. For athletics, it’s incredible rewarding to become faster, stronger or more skilled with every practice session. This applies outside the realm of athletics as well – I really enjoy putting in time to find a faster way to solve a math problem or writing a script/using technology to more efficiently complete tasks. It’s fun.

What are your hobbies?

Athletics, technology, computing, mathematics, building things, and eating.
