Demetrios Sahlas, MD, is MG DeGroote Professor in Stroke Management, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, McMaster University; Associate Professor, Division of Neurology, Department of Medicine, McMaster University; and Central South Regional Stroke Centre, Hamilton General Hospital, Hamilton Health Sciences.

He obtained his MD from McMaster University and completed his postgraduate training in neurology at McGill University, followed by a clinical research fellowship in behavioural neurology and stroke at the University of Toronto. His research interests include the diagnosis and management of carotid artery disease, the use of transcranial doppler (TCD) ultrasound in the prevention and treatment of cerebrovascular disease, and the cognitive and neuropathological correlates of chronic microvascular ischemic changes involving the periventricular and subcortical white matter.
