John Turnbull, MD, PhD., current appointments and affiliations include Professor and Head, Division of Neurology, Department of Medicine, McMaster University and Andrew Bruce Douglas Chair in Neurology, McMaster University.

He received his BSc from York University, MSc from Université Laval, PhD. in pharmacology and toxicology from the University of Montreal, and MD from Western University. He obtained his fellowship in internal medicine from McMaster University and his fellowship in neurology from Western University. He undertook two years of postdoctoral training at the University of California (Irvine) at the Centre for the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory.

His primary clinical interests are in motor neuron diseases. He has an active laboratory investigating models of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) using transgenic animals and molecular biological approaches, and is involved actively in clinical trials in ALS.
