University of Waterloo

Karen Van Ooteghem, PhD, is an ONDRI Affiliate Scientist and Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences, University of Waterloo.

Karen is interested in age- and disease-related changes in central nervous system function and the effects of these changes on balance, mobility, and physical activity. Her applied research focuses primarily on the use of wearable technologies for remote health assessment and methods for translating this information into meaningful outcomes for patients and clinicians. Her laboratory-based research aims to determine what combination of measures captured during balance and mobility assessment aids in the earliest possible detection of balance and mobility impairment and provides the greatest prognostic and prescriptive utility.
