Molecular/Neuropathology Assessment Platform
How this assessment platform benefits ONDRI’s research
Neurodegenerative diseases are caused by the abnormal accumulation of specific proteins in the brain. Proteins are the building blocks of the body. Scientists now have ways of measuring these specific proteins in blood, as well as directly in brains obtained at autopsy.
This is important because it confirms if a person with a clinical diagnosis like Alzheimer’s disease, actually has brain or blood markers of the disease. Many neurodegenerative diseases cannot be definitively diagnosed until this type of analysis is done, particularly when more than one disease is present, or a person has mixed disease.
ONDRI protocol
ONDRI researchers are analyzing blood samples obtained during research to identify underlying protein pathologies. Brain tissue is analyzed upon autopsy for those participants who provided consent.
