Producing Reliable Data Sets Requires
Intense Focus & Cooperation
ONDRI’s clinical, technical and data specialists use novel
approaches to manage and deliver study data
1. Quality assurance
Multiple sites in a clinical study could introduce variation in processes. ONDRI sets pre-defined, consistent standards for study data collected. This includes standards for: instrument calibration; staff training; data recording and documentation. These rigorous standards are designed to provide researchers accessing these data a high level of comfort about replicability and quality.

2. Data collection & upload
Participants are assessed, using validated tools chosen by ONDRI assessment experts. Data are recorded utilizing standards developed through Quality Assurance stage. These data are reviewed in batches by trained personnel and entered into Brain-CODE: Ontario Brain Institute’s “big data” neuroinformatics computer system.

3. Quality control
ONDRI clinical and data experts review the data again, using specially designed models, to ensure they adhere to standards set in Quality Assurance stage. Experts run different types of analyses to highlight data anomalies and spot check for irregularities.

4. Error detection
Unusual data that may be errors are returned to clinical sites and staff, for verification. Once verified or corrected, data are returned to Brain-CODE.

5. Data release
ONDRI data are de-identified, using the latest tools and techniques, and are then shared with qualifying researchers world-wide. Data packages include ‘data dictionaries’ and other details providing guidance on how to read and utilize the data.
