Trajectories of health system use and survival for community-dwelling persons with dementia a cohort study

Women are more likely to be admitted to nursing homes after stroke than men. This research shows that although women have a lower mortality rate than men after admission to a nursing home, they require more care due to higher rates of pain and depression as well as increased frailty. This study has identified opportunities to improve poststroke care in the nursing home setting.
